2010 YPI Fundraiser
On behalf of the Youth Policy Institute (YPI), we thank you for your interest in our Empowerment. Hope. Access. Gala Dinner & Auction, which was held on June 2, 2010.
YPI has enjoyed some momentous occasions:
- State Superintendent Jack O’Connell joining us in Pacoima to announce $26 million in 21st Century afterschool funding;
- The grand opening of the Hollywood FamilySource Center operated by YPI as part of the new poverty strategy of the City of Los Angeles;
- U.S. Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis visiting YPI in April to highlight a $3.6 million health careers grant to our agency, the only grant awarded in Los Angeles;
- The culmination of the Los Angeles Unified School District’s Public School Choice process, where YPI was awarded control of a middle school and partnerships with six new elementary schools;
- And in March we held a press conference with our friends at LAUSD to announce a five-year Full-Service Community Schools grant awarded to YPI by the U.S. Dept. of Education.
Because of generous supporters, the next six months will have even greater impact. YPI is dependent on private support to complement public and government funding. With 1,100 staff working at 95 program sites across Los Angeles, including more than 70 schools, private contributions will be put to immediate use changing the lives of low-income families across Los Angeles.
