Fund for the Improvement of Post-Secondary Education (FIPSE)
The FIPSE Los Angeles CollegeReady Program works with fifteen Los Angeles Unified School District and charter high schools in Los Angeles to support students and families battling the extreme shortage of college counselors in our schools. Partnering with the
California State University at Northridge (CSUN) Michael Eisner School of Education and the UCLA Early Academic Outreach Program, the program trains 150 staff and counselors at partnering YPI high schools as “College Ambassadors.” The Ambassadors complete an intensive 40 hour professional development training led by professors at the colleges and work one-on-one with 1,500 students (and their families) to help them prepare for, enter, and succeed in college. While not credentialed college counselors, the "College Ambassadors" provide critically needed support and guidance.
The Clic Network
The program also partners with The Clic Network, a free, interactive online system that helps each student prepare and update a comprehensive college plan. Working with their Ambassadors, each student develops a plan that shows where they are in college preparation, as well as the classes and services they require to be eligible for two and four years public and private college upon graduation.
