Public Computer Centers
The Educational Technology Department provides Los Angeles youth and adults with access to technology, trainings and resources. Technology can and is used as a tool to facilitate different types of learning.
The YPI Public Computer Centers reflect this focus. Funded through a $5.6 million federal grant through the U.S. Department of Commerce's Broadband Technology Opportunities Program (BTOP), the program will open and operate 80 public computer centers in Los Angeles targeting Los Angeles neighborhoods hard hit by poverty. These Public Computer Centers include schools, libraries, housing projects, parks, recreational centers and community-based organizations that offer convenient access for residents and families.
Thanks to a generous donation from Time Warner Cable, the Time Warner Cable Technology Center opened in October, 2010 at 241 North Maclay Avenue, San Fernando, CA 91340 inside Library Plaza. The first of many, the Center offers broadband internet access, computer literacy classes, and a broad range of youth and adult education services for community residents.
