Workforce Development & Job Training

YPI helps low-income youth and adult clients in Los Angeles prepare for professional work environments and receive training, certification, and placement for healthcare and education careers.

  • Reconnections Academy provides subsidized work experience for 200 youth with education and bridge training. 120 clients receive occupational training and placement at area hospitals and clinics for careers as Medical Assistants.
  • Industries With a Statewide Need offers comprehensive bridge and on-the-job training to prepare 120 adult clients in Los Angeles for health careers as Medical Assistants, Certified Nursing Assistants, and Pharmacy Technicians. Clients receive stipends while enrolled in occupational training, as well as certification in their career tracks and job placement.
  • Educational Bridge Training provides bridge and occupational training to prepare 200 clients for health and education careers. Offered with LAUSD and Los Angeles Valley College, the program prepares clients for careers as Medical Assistants, Certified Nursing Assistants, Pharmacy Technicians, and Preschool Teachers.
  • Summer Youth Program is a WIA-funded program that offers 140 hours of subsidized work experience for 250 high school youth in YPI programs and at partnering nonprofit agencies each summer.
  • CSBG ARRA Employment provides 1,000 hours of subsidized work experience for low-income clients in Los Angeles.
  • Adult Education services for low-income adults include English as a Second Language (ESL) and GED Preparation to help clients prepare for the workplace. YPI offers services at YPI Day Laborer Centers and at public housing developments.
  • Day Laborer Centers in Van Nuys and North Hollywood operated by YPI offer safe locations for clients to secure work and employment skills.

Community partners that work with YPI in these programs include the City of Los Angeles Community Development Department, the State of California Employment Development Department, the Los Angeles Unified School District, Los Angeles Valley College, UCLA. area hospitals and clinics, YO! Valley OneSource Center, Build Rehabilitation WorkSource Center, and many others.
