YPI Hollywood FamilySource Center

The YPI Hollywood FamilySource Center in Los Angeles offers education, training, and referrals for low-income families. The Center serves 2,600 clients each year with multi-benefit screening services and 360 clients with intensive case management.

 

Multi-benefit screening includes information to help family members get and hold a job, open a bank account, receive the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), obtain child care and utilities discounts, obtain low cost health and auto insurance, and obtain public assistance for their family. Other services include youth tutoring and enrichment, job training and career counseling, parenting education, financial literacy, adult education, computer literacy, and legal services. Clients also link to existing YPI programs to receive subsidized work experience, afterschool programs, and other critically needed services.

 

  • Adult supports for clients includes case management, adult education classes such as English as a Second Language (ESL) and GED preparation, computer literacy workshops, multi-benefit screening, legal assistance, parenting education, and other services to help adult family members improve their employability and increase family income.
  • Youth supports include tutoring and enrichment services to improve academic skills, recreational programs such as basketball and soccer and community service programs in the neighborhoods. Youth enroll in college awareness workshops (including family financial preparation for college) and gain access to the ‘Cash for College’ program.
  • Referrals offered for families include medical and dental care, mental health counseling, emergency services, and other city and community programs.
  • Program linkages with other YPI and community programs support families in afterschool programs, Supplemental Educational Services (SES) tutoring, preschool, child care, the Family Technology Project, charter schools, and workforce development services.
  • Job training provides employment resources, including subsidized work experience, on-the-job training, job search resources, soft skills training, and certification in expanding career fields such as health and education.

Community partners in the YPI Hollywood FamilySource Center include Hollygrove, the UCLA Community-Based Learning Program, Los Angeles Valley College, the Salvadoran American Leadership and Educational Fund (SALEF), Bet Tzedek, and Thai CDC.
