Arredondo assumes her new position following the retirement of founding SFiAM Principal Olivia Robledo. SFiAM was established as part of the LAUSD Public School Choice initiative in 2010. Pearl is a former student of San Fernando Middle School who has had a lifetime of active involvement in her community. She is known for her dedication to teaching as well as an extraordinary ability to connect with both students and their parents.
“We welcome Pearl to her new position and look forward to working with her and the rest of SFiAM’s staff on the many programs that YPI offers at this Promise Neighborhood school including GEAR UP, the School2Home iPad program, as well as Health & Wellness efforts and much more,” said Dixon Slingerland, Executive Director, YPI. “If there is anyone who could replace our beloved Olivia, it is Pearl.”
Pearl Arredondo was part of the original teacher-led team that partnered with YPI to found SFiAM and taught for 10 years before becoming an instructional specialist and now Principal of SFiAM. She was featured on "TED Talks Education," featured in People's Magazine's: My American Dream: Great Success Against All Odds, and 2014 recipient of the United Way of Los Angeles "Inspirational Teacher Award."
