Afterschool basketball tournament full of memorable moments

Here's a look behind the scenes at our Elementary School basketball championships.

Held at Wallis Annenberg High school, the tournament featured eight teams from eight different schools competing over the course of five weeks. The video, produced by Corina Deleon, a tutor at the Camino Nuevo Charter Academy Harvard Campus, highlights her school’s victory over their rivals, Academia Semillas Del Pueblo.

“Our program focuses on sportsmanship, teamwork and community,” said Athletic and Events Project Specialist Chris Fernandez. “We work hard to promote health and fitness while giving our students a safe place to play.”

Our Youth Services department offers afterschool and expanded learning programs at 67 schools in Los Angeles and serve more than 7,00 K-12 students each school day and throughout the Summer.

The department coordinates recreation leagues where young athletes can showcase their skill in a particular sport. These events bring out an average of 200 student athletes per weekend and are an annual highlight for our community, staff and parents.
