AmeriCorps
The YPI AmeriCorps Program offers a unique community model for tutoring
and enrichment activities that perfectly connects to YPI's mission
to provide education and training services for low income families.
Supported by California Volunteers, the YPI AmeriCorps Program trains 106 members who work with Los Angeles Unified
School District and charter schools to provide tutoring in English Language Arts and math. Offered during the school day and in afterschool hours, the program helps more than a thousand students at partnering schools each year.
Los Angeles Infrastructure Academy
YPI provides AmeriCorps tutors to assist high school youth in the Los Angeles Infrastructure Academy, a career education program that trains youth for well paying careers in the public utilities and skilled trades industries.
Launched by Mayor Antonio
Villaraigosa in September 2007, the Infrastructure Academy reaches over 1,700 students attending nearby high schools, including Jefferson High School, Santee High School, Manual Arts High School, and The Accelerated School. Partners include the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, the Los Angeles Unified School District, Los Angeles Trade Technical College, California State University Los Angeles School of Engineering, and IBEW Local 18.
National Council of La Raza (NCLR)
YPI also partners with the National Council of La Raza (NCLR) to train and place AmeriCorps members at public schools in Los Angeles. Since 1995, the NCLR AmeriCorps program has worked to provide education and workforce development training to more than 4,500 members of the Latino community across the country.
