AmeriCorps Celebration

June 30, 2016

Congratulations, Promise Corps members, for an amazing year! On June 30, we honored and celebrated our AmeriCorps YPI Promise Corps members across the agency for giving a year in service, as most of them finished their term.

This year, we had 108 AmeriCorps Members who served in Los Angeles, at 36 sites, totaling over 183,600 hours of volunteer service. Our members have reached over 3,000 students, providing tutoring, mentoring and college readiness supports. Our members have also worked alongside staff members to help build the capacity of our organization and reach community members.

The Academic Tutoring program focuses on providing individualized academic assistance in Math and ELA to students in grades 3–11. Students who receive tutoring are more likely to graduate from high school. Among the Promise Corps’ Service Day Projects, they volunteered at the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank; renovated a senior center with The Mission Continues; painted murals at YPI’s Hollywood FamilySource Center; and participated in a neighborhood clean-up in Hyde Park.
