Our two day laborer centers provide community outreach and education services to low-income workers by offering resources to meet their short and long-term prospects.
SAFE AND CLEAN SITES
We operate two day laborer sites, located in North Hollywood and Van Nuys. Our sites provide a safe place for day laborers seeking work to meet with employers. The goal of the sites is to reduce the congregation of day laborers at informal meeting grounds, and keep the site safe, clean, and free of drugs and alcohol.
We work with local businesses, community members and organizations to address local issues and concerns while providing basic amenities like water, coffee, bathrooms and shelter. We do not negotiate or intervene in employment transactions between laborers and employers and there are no fees for those who utilize our services.
OUTREACH SERVICES
Our outreach services are designed to attract workers and employers to the site. Staff organize recreational activities and spearhead community events that provide food, toys, clothing and other basic necessities for day laborers and their families. Activities and services are also provided through volunteers, religious and community organizations. Additionally, our centers offer computer literacy classes and ESL certification.
