Enrique Villagrana
Director of Learning & Development
Enrique Villagrana is the Director of Learning & Development for Youth Policy Institute. The Learning and Development Department provides training to 1,500 employees. Previous to obtaining his current position, Enrique was the Director of the Supplemental Educational Services (SES) program, where he was instrumental in growing the program from serving 300 students during the first year to close to 3,000 students annually. In the past 11 years, he has supported with the implementation of AmeriCorps, VISTA, and other tutoring intervention grants at YPI.
Prior to joining YPI, Enrique managed an AmeriCorps program that provided before-school, during-school, and after-school tutoring and enrichment services in Oakland, CA. He played a major role in the development and implementation of four separate federal, state, and local grants, bringing much-needed resources to low-income communities. In addition, Enrique has extensive experience leading collaborative efforts with key community leaders including, local businesses, community-based organizations, faith-based organizations, school administrators, city officials, and community members.
Having grown up in an immigrant working class community in El Paso, Texas, and moving to the Los Angeles area, Enrique is committed to making a difference in the lives of low-income communities by increasing access to tools and resources to higher education. Enrique understands firsthand the transformative power of education. He was the first in his family to attend and graduate from a four-year university, earning a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Master of Science in Leadership and Management from the University of La Verne’s School of Business and Public Management, Business Management and Leadership.
