Our tutoring and project-based learning increase academic achievement while keeping learning fun.

We are the largest after-school provider for charter schools in the U.S. and the largest high school after-school provider in California. Our after-school programs reach more than 5,000 students every day at 66 school sites.

HOW IT WORKS

In partnership with the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) and Los Angeles charter schools, Youth Policy Institute offers tutoring and project-based activities that increase academic achievement and keep learning fun.

Our before-school, afterschool, and summer programming provides active, collaborative spaces to support mastery and expanded horizons. We achieve project-based and disguised learning through techniques including academic enrichment, sports and recreation, parenting workshops, financial literacy, and test preparation.

Afterschool programs provide students and their families with credentialed academic instructors and college-age tutors every school day until at least 6 pm. We focus on academic assistance and enrichment to keep students on track for grade level promotion and high school graduation. To help students reach their college and career goals, the high school afterschool program offers services including career exploration, job skills training, job shadowing with community mentors, and coursework for specific career tracks in partnership with LAUSD and area community colleges.

YPI's summer programs are designed to keep students engaged, preventing learning loss while they are away from school. The program will create a safe, nurturing environment where all students can develop socially, mentally and personally. Through a variety of visual, auditory, and hands-on learning styles, students will build their critical thinking skills, creating a framework for academic self-confidence and social responsibility.

For all of our supplementary programming, YPI’s cohort of regional supervisors and program coordinators tailor activities to match the interests and needs of each school site. Some of our most popular activities include digital music, graphic design, mariachi lessons and dance.
