Make a difference in a young person’s life. Become a mentor today!
Are you interested in working with young people ages 16–24? Do you feel passionate about sharing your personal experience and imparting insights you’ve gained firsthand to motivate youth? Our mentorship opportunities that connect the next generation to the wisdom of mentors provide youth a positive learning experience for both mentor and mentee.
Youth Policy Institute is searching for individuals who are passionate about youth development and eager to serve as a positive role model to those still navigating their way to life as an adult.
YPI’s YouthSource & Education Department currently has three programs that provide potential mentors the opportunity to engage and affect youth in a lasting way. If you’re interested in being involved, let us know what program interests you the most by filling out the interests form below.
Pathways to
Justice Careers
If you are in the emergency career field (nursing, EMT, law enforcement, firefighter, attorney, etc.), we need you as a mentor! The Pathways to Justice Careers program supports youth who are facing challenges that put them at risk of not graduating high school by addressing those barriers and providing pathways into the civil service sector. Mentors will be involved in a one-to-one or small group setting geared to inspire youth and provide valuable insight and guidance into this line of work. This commitment is one hour per week for six months.
Face Forward
Face Forward is looking for mentors from a variety of education and career fields. If you’re interested in making an impact in a young person’s life, this program is for you! Face Forward supports youth who’ve been involved in the juvenile justice system by helping those at risk meet their education and career goals. Program volunteers have the choice to engage with youth in a small group setting at either our Pico-Union or Hollywood Youth Center locations. Mentors will have weekly check-ins and meet with youth in person twice per month over 6 months.
ServiceWorks
ServiceWorks is looking for mentors from a variety of fields in education and career. If you enjoy facilitating workshops in a classroom setting, this program is for you! Youth enrolled in our program learns about the importance of community service as an effective tool for positive change, and have the opportunity to create their own Capstone Project in which they plan and implement their own service project. As a mentor, you’ll implement our curriculum in either a one-on-one or small-group setting, as well as create smart goals and action steps that support youth in achieving these goals.
We’re sure that your time as a mentor will bring you rewarding experiences. We will match you with someone who shares your personal interests and who you will assist with educational, career, and personal goals. Please complete the interest form by clicking the link below.
