President Obama's Executive Order: Establishing a Council on Community Solutions

November 16, 2016

President Obama signed an Executive Order establishing a Council on Community Solutions that, harnessing best practices learned over the past eight years, creates a lasting structure for Federal agencies to continue improving coordination across Government and strengthening partnerships with communities, the private sector and other stakeholders. The Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative, the umbrella for YPI's Los Angeles Promise Neighborhood and LA Promise Zone awards, is included in the order.

There are more than 800 members of this federal agency staff Community of Practice that participates in community-centric work, alongside many other Federal colleagues, that are committed to working across silos to help communities achieve their desired outcomes.

This new Council, which will include leadership from across Federal agencies and the White House, echoes that commitment by equipping incoming Federal leadership with an important tool for working across agencies and sectors as they undertake new policies and initiatives. The Council’s purpose includes developing and implementing policy that puts the priorities of cities and towns first and spreading successful solutions based on best practices and community engagement. The Council, where appropriate, will engage with representatives of organizations, businesses, and community leaders inside and outside of government to expand and improve partnerships that address the most pressing challenges communities face.
