PRESS RELEASE: Aramark Mobilizes Employees to Improve the Health of Los Angeles Families

September 22, 2016

Aramark employees bring health and wellness education and awareness programs to the Youth Policy Institute’s Ramona Elementary School as part of Aramark Building Community Day.

As part of Aramark’s ongoing commitment to health and wellness, more than 100 Aramark associates are uniting today at the Youth Policy Institute’s Ramona Elementary School in Los Angeles to inspire families to make healthy food, nutrition and lifestyle choices. This year, Aramark Building Community Day (ABC Day), the company’s global day of service, is supporting the company’s Healthy for Life® 20 by 20 commitment with the American Heart Association to improve the health of Americans by 20 percent by 2020.

This event marks the second year of an ongoing partnership between Aramark and the Youth Policy Institute. Today, Aramark volunteers will lead food discovery workshops for elementary school students, including cooking demos, healthy eating classes and food tastings. In addition, the team will create inspiring health and educational murals to provide a more engaging environment for learning. Around the world, thousands of Aramark associates, including chefs, nutritionists and dietitians, will volunteer at community centers and nonprofit groups as one demonstration of the year-round dedication of Aramark employees to strengthening local communities.

“We are honored to have our dedicated employees apply their skills and expertise to enhance the health and well-being of the Los Angeles community,” said Brad Drummond, COO, Uniform and Refreshment Services, Aramark. “Aramark is dedicated to enriching and nourishing the lives of our clients, customers and communities, and Aramark Building Community Day is a true demonstration of this commitment. It’s all about improving the health of local families by bringing much-needed education to help them lead healthier lives.”

“The Youth Policy Institute is deeply appreciative of the ongoing support provided to the Los Angeles Promise Zone by Aramark volunteers,” said Dixon Slingerland, President & CEO, Youth Policy Institute. “Thanks to Aramark’s partnership and the work they do year-round, as well as on Aramark Building Community Day, our participants will be better able to make healthy food, nutrition and lifestyle choices from cradle to college to career.”

Today’s effort is part of Aramark Building Community, the company’s year-round global volunteer and philanthropic program. Since 2008, Aramark has invested more than $9 million in expertise, financial and in-kind resources to empower youth and adults to lead healthier lifestyles and succeed in the workforce in partnership with community centers in 52 cities. More than 35,000 employees have dedicated their skills and expertise through hundreds of volunteer projects impacting millions of people.
