During her State of the District speech on August 9, 2016, LAUSD Superintendent Michelle King spoke about YPI network partnership high school Sylmar Biotech Health Academy.
“Many of our pathways provide students with the skills needed not only in college but also in careers. Linked Learning programs provide students with rigorous real-world experiences in a variety of career fields including access to hands-on summer internships in courses that lead to professional certificates. Sylmar Biotech Health Academy is an example of our amazing Linked Learning programs. Under Principal Maria Herrera’s leadership, Sylmar enabled more than 40 students to attend Mission College where they earned college credit and a Health Occupations Credential. In addition, more than 40 Sylmar students participated in paid internships this summer, helping them envision themselves as professionals in the medical field.”
