The City of Los Angeles was just awarded a prestigious Our Town grant by the National Endowment for the Arts for "Promise Zone Arts," a cultural asset mapping project that will culminate in a Cultural Arts Directory and Neighborhood Sharing Events to celebrate local artists.
YPI's afterschool programs at three Promise Zone high schools will engage students to participate in identifying and mapping local arts assets to showcase the area's rich cultural heritage.
"The arts can be a catalyst of place-based transformation. Promise Zone Arts will help us map the roads our communities are taking into the future," said Dixon Slingerland, Executive Director, Youth Policy Institute.
