Voices of YPI: “I took a picture of my college admissions and sent it to my parents. And another person who I sent the picture to was one of my college ambassadors. Her name is Sofia. I owe everything to her because she really helped me dig into my story. She’s been a huge part of my success.”

Ashley is the first person in her family to pursue a higher education. She is a straight A student who champions her work ethic. During her sophomore year, Ashley’s father (a painter) seriously injured himself when he fell off of a ladder. As a result, the family struggled financially and Ashley’s responsibilities grew. Her father had a very hard time communicating in the hospital because English is not his native language. Seeing this, Ashley recognized a need for her community and has vowed to address it. Today, her dream job is to become a general physician in family medicine. “There are a lot of barriers in the healthcare field and I really want to break those barriers for the Latino community.”
