Voices of YPI: Daniela

"Through YPI, I've been able to access resources I never thought I’d be capable of receiving, such as SAT Prep and one-on-one counseling to help apply to college. Through the love and courage of their staff, I've been able to grow not only academically but personally."

Nine years ago, Daniela’s parents migrated their family from Mexico. Her parents sacrificed their careers as engineers and became housekeepers and parking attendants in the United States. The hope they have had for her and her little sister’s future has instilled in Daniela a deep sense of social responsibility. Despite all of the challenges she has faced while growing up, she was determined to graduate high school, from the STEM Academy of Hollywood, and to go to college at UC Berkeley. Being an undocumented student who is also ineligible for DACA, which allows undocumented youth to work in the United States, placed numerous obstacles before her. To make matters worse, Daniela’s mother has also recently lost her job and is unable to help at this crucial time.

Daniela has started a crowdfunding campaign to help pay for her first year at UC Berkeley. The campaign runs through August 5, 2016.
