Brisk weather and overcast skies did not suppress the buzz of excitement swarming within Vaughn Next Century Learning Center on Saturday, April 25th. With months of planning and anticipation, YPI's 7th Annual Family Expo in San Fernando brought together families, community leaders, and partners to enjoy a day of fun, food, and education. Family Expo is a celebration: of the extraordinary schools within the Los Angeles Promise Neighborhood (LAPN) and the administrators and staff that work tirelessly to provide the best education to students living in this area.
Most importantly, Family Expo is the opportunity to recognize the parents and families who are committed to the education of their children as well as their personal development by partaking in YPI programs.
This year's theme, The Joy of Discovery, provided a hands-on approach to connect students and parents to STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education. All participants, from pre-kinder to high school, got the opportunity to build a car using the principals of STEM. Parents and students worked side by side on their projects as YPI staff provided them with information on STEM.
