YPI Charter Schools is proud to announce the recent opening of our newest school, Bert Corona Charter High School. Just three weeks ago, we opened the doors to incoming freshmen and sophomore students at our first high school, co-located on the campus of Maclay Middle School in Pacoima.
Bert Corona High was made possible by a start-up grant of $250,000 from the Walton Family Foundation to support school operations and start-up costs in the first year. Walton funds are being used to open two iMac computer labs, provide Smart Boards in every classroom, and offer Common Core professional development for our teachers.
The California Department of Education also awarded Bert Corona Charter High School at $575,000 grant as part of its Public Charter Schools Grant Program.
In addition, starting in 2016-17, Bert Corona Charter High School will incorporate award-winning GEAR UP college readiness program that offers comprehensive academic preparation and support services including a staffed College Corner with career advisors, college field trips for families, and parent workshops. This seven-year grant is funded by the U.S. Department of Education.
Bert Corona Charter High School joins the YPI Charter Schools family that includes Bert Corona Middle School and Monsenor Oscar Romero Middle School.
