Today YPI was awarded the prestigious and highly competitive IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Grant, which allows families to receive tax preparation services at no cost to them during filing season. YPI sites will allow households to file their federal and state taxes with IRS-certified volunteers, which allows for quality control and an improved accuracy rate of returns.

The VITA program is a core component in YPI’s Asset Building Strategy to lead families towards financial stability. Besides offering free services, VITA educates clients on important tax credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child and Dependent Care Credit. YPI also encourages our Summer Youth Employment Program participants to utilize this service. The IRS is the 14th federal agency since 2013 to support YPI’s place-based approach to fighting poverty in Los Angeles.
