Eddie Cuevas, Academic Director, Youth Policy Institute
Eddie Cuevas currently serves as the Academic Director at the Youth Policy Institute (YPI). He is passionate and committed to student achievement and high-quality schools. In his role as Academic Director, he will collaborate with our Chief Academic Officer to focus on the results-based accountability system and to support schools in the Los Angeles’ Promise Neighborhood and Promise Zone. Prior to joining YPI, he served in the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) as the principal of Public Service Community School (PSCS). His recent success at PSCS included a focused approach on student literacy, forging strong partnerships with community-based organizations and higher education to turn around a low-performing school in South Los Angeles. In his two years as principal at PSCS he led the school to a 16 point increase in graduation rate, a 23-point increase in California’s High School Exit Exam pass rate and a 4 point decrease in suspension rates for students. Eddie also serves on the Board of Directors of WestEd and is a former commissioner on the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. A former social studies teacher, Eddie holds his BA in Political Science & History and M.Ed. from UCLA.
